OFFENSIVE FOOLING

Technology have reached great heights but everything has its own pros and cons, hence technology is also misused a lot, especially mobile and internet. A new way of fooling people have started. I wanted to share this with all so that innocent people are saved from any sort of trouble.

We get mails from yahoo lottery stating that we have won a huge amount (they can go up to telling one million $) through a random selection. E-mail would look very near to a professional mail so that any person may ignore the minor loop poles in it due to excitement of winning huge amount by doing nothing at all. I got a similar mail, I knew its bogus but still wanted to give a try to see how they respond, and therefore I replied to their first mail the way they wanted. Then I got a call that they are sending a diplomat from UK with my winning cheque. He will reach India and give me call and then I’ll have to follow him to get the amount credited to my local bank account. I became very irate and suspicious so I checked on Google to find that this process is going on and by this means, they even hack the amount that is there in our bank accounts. REAL DANGER.

To my shock next morning, I really got the call that he is waiting at the airport for me. I can no longer control my sensation and I told him to wait at the airport to meet my inspector. To this he hang the call and called back after five minutes to yell at me that if I had distrust on him then why I agreed for him to come from UK when I got the call previous night. To this I replied “do you want me to deem this utter nonsense that you are coming down from UK to give me one million $ for nothing at all wherein it’s difficult to earn even a penny today.” He again hanged up. However, I didn’t give up.

I gave his number, which was a local mobile number to my cousin, to talk to him, and find out what is it. He did so and we became very sure that he is a big fraud with limited knowledge. My sharp cousin started shooting up queries on him. It follows like this:

1.     On what basis have you selected her as a winner for such a huge amount, to which there was no reply.

2. What is your location, at which terminal of airport are you waiting, to which     he was again resistant to retort.

He tried to threaten my cousin by saying he’ll lodge a complaint against me and I’ll have to deal with FBI. My cousin with lot of difficulty controlled his giggle and asked how you can go to FBI? UK police is Scotland Yard and not FBI, to which he went off blank. He was asked under which section could you file a case against her, instead we’ll file a case against you for fraudulent practice. If it’s not so then tell me where you exactly are and we both will come right away to meet you and get the amount. To which he closed the call by saying “it’s none of your business; she’ll have to deal with FBI now”. Ha ha ha FBI again.

Please my friends do not ignore this and try to forward this link to your loved ones or inform them about such practices so that they don’t become a victim and fall into trouble as few have become.  Bunty maharana

Chinese media organs lashed out at Google (GOOG) in an apparently coordinated assault on Saturday — with one paper suggesting Google is linked to the U.S. intelligence agencies — just days before the Web giant may announce plans to close its Chinese-language search engine.

The attacks — which came in the form of media commentaries — came one day after a Chinese business newspaper said Google would on Monday announce plans to close its search engine on April 10.

The Chinese media broadsides have exacerbated an already tense situation in which Google and the Chinese government are locked in a stare-down over Web censorship. Two months after Google declared it would no longer comply with Chinese filtering rules, the government shows no signs of backing away from its position: Follow the law, or get out.

China to Google: We Don’t Need You

Google remains defiant, a fact that appears to have annoyed China’s communist leaders, who frequently use the media to advance their agenda. At least two of the statements were in English, suggesting that Chinese authorities are interested in sending a message to Americans. And it’s a pretty simple one: China doesn’t need Google.

“To stay or to leave, that is Google’s decision,” editorialized China Radio International. “China’s Internet market with 400 million users can only and will grow stronger. Maybe Google is preparing to retreat, and maybe it is still hesitating. But one thing is clear: China won’t let its regulations or laws bend to any companies’ threats.”

Meanwhile, the state-run Xinhua news agency slammed Google in an editorial and accused it of ties to U.S. intelligence agencies.

“Some Chinese Internet users who prefer to use Google still don’t realize perhaps that due to the links between Google and the American intelligence services, search histories on Google will be kept and used by the American intelligence agencies,” Xinhua said, as cited by Agence France Press.

The English-language China Daily wrote in a comment that “Chinese netizens did not expect the Google issue to snowball into a political minefield and become a tool in the hands of vested interests abroad to attack China under the pretext of Internet freedom. It continued:

Microsoft Corp’s assault on search engine leader Google Inc has taken a major step forward as US and European regulators cleared the softw
are company’s search partnership with Yahoo Inc.

The 10-year deal, struck last July, is the biggest effort yet by Microsoft to establish an online business to rival Google, an area where Microsoft has lost $5 billion over the last four years.

The Justice Department’s Antitrust Division said the deal was unlikely to substantially lessen competition.

US market participants had expressed support for the partnership as a way to create a more viable alternative to Google, the division said in a statement.

Google, which did not oppose the partnership, did not comment specifically on the regulatory approval but said that there has always been “robust” competition in the search ad business.

How the deal works
The deal means Bing becomes the search engine for Microsoft and Yahoo sites, while Yahoo focuses on attracting big advertisers.

Microsoft will handle the automated auction of search ads for use on both companies’ sites, and pay Yahoo a portion of search ad sales generated on Yahoo pages.

Microsoft is hoping that by making itself a single conduit for advertisers to access customers on both sites, it will become a credible alternative to Google.

Last month Yahoo handled 17 percent of US Internet searches, while Microsoft took 11.3 percent, according to comScore. Theoretically, that would now give Microsoft over 28 percent of search traffic, against Google’s 65.4 percent.

“At 30 points we are now a credible option, so that number matters,” said Microsoft’s Yusuf Mehdi, who is charged with making Bing and the MSN portal a financial success.

Globally, Google is even more dominant, with 90 percent of the search market compared with 7.4 percent for a combined Yahoo and Bing, according to November data from Web research firm StatCounter. More information please visit http://bunty-maharana.co.cc

Even with a relatively limited set of options in CSS, typography can vary tremendously using pure CSS syntax. Serif or sans-serif? Large or small font? Line height, spacing, font size and padding… The list goes on and on.

To find typographic design patterns that are common in modern Web design and to resolve some common typographic issues, we conducted extensive research on 50 popular websites on which typography matters more than usual (or at least should matter more than usual). We’ve chosen popular newspapers, magazines and blogs as well as various typography-related websites.

We’ve carefully analyzed their typography and style sheets and searched for similarities and differences. We have also put together a spreadsheet of the study that displays the websites’ various values (for example, the ratio between the line height and line length).

Ultimately, we identified 13 general typographic problems and issues related to typographic design and tried to find answers to them through our research:

1. How popular are serif and sans-serif typefaces in body copy and headlines?
2. Which fonts are used most frequently?
3. What is the average font size?
4. What is the average ratio between the font size of headlines and body copy?
5. What is the average line height of body copy?
6. What is the average ratio between line height and font size in body copy?
7. What is the average ratio between line height and line length in body copy?
8. What is the average amount of spacing between paragraphs?
9. What is the average ratio of paragraph spacing to line height in body copy?
10. How are links styled?
11. How many characters per line are common in body copy?
12. How often are links underlined?
13. How often is font replacement (sIFR, etc.) used?

We ended up with solid data, which we evaluated and prepared for this article. Based on the statistics, we have identified several “rules of thumb” for working with type. Please note that these rules can often, but not always, be considered best practice.

We look at how to transform a Web page using traditional Website Building Tools into a CSS-based site. This isn’t the first attempt in this space to try to recreate a Web page using CSS. The goal of transferring the page to a CSS layout is to get rid of any HTML that’s used for presentational purposes in order to achieve the layout. Most Web layouts use HTML tables for layout purposes and spacer GIFs for spacing and positioning of elements on the Web page. We will be using CSS to replace the JavaScript in the JavaScript rollovers on this page.

Look at the layout of a web page. Most Web page layouts has header, columns, and footer. In the header is the logo and tagline, as well as some site navigation including a link to the search and sitemap pages. Then, there are columns where the links for the main content material rests. After that, its the footer with the usual copyright notice, a link to the top and a standard ad banner.

The first goal in making such a page is to focus on the major browsers like the recent versions of Netscape, Mozilla and Internet Explorer. To achieve that goal, the first step in converting a site from more conventional web design methods is to strip out the content out of the HTML tables, delete the spacers and start with a clean slate. By making a clean break from the past working methods, you cut out any potential problems that could throw a monkey wrench into the new CSS-based design.

This stripping down allows you to strategically plan the CSS layout styles. While it’s a good idea to plan ahead, most of the time that’s simply not possible. In order to meet deadlines, planning time gets cut, or a site simply evolves past its original design. The content of the site is then forced into a layout that goes against contemporary practices. Hopefully with this CSS revolution, web builders will be able to go back through their sites and actually rebuild and not just redesign their sites to manage any new modifications that have been made since their initial build.

After stripping the page down to its bare bones, you may want to divide the page into sections. There are some basic divisions already in a webpage: Header, columns, and footer. You will build off of these divisions, creating a structure that associates specific CSS rules to those sections. The actual divisions for creating such a page can be:

Header
Site

Navigation
Left Column
Right Column
Footer

So, the initial HTML markup will have these building blocks: Before stylizing the header, generate the HTML markup for it: Now, mark out the background and type colors with the simple CSS rule that follows. This rule creates the thin black line that separates it from the five top links, which you will get to later.

#header {
background-color: #000;
color: #000;
border-bottom: 1px solid

#000;
}

Now, bring in the logo and add the tagline. As you can see in the markup, were using text and not the graphic of the logo. The logo is actually brought in through the background of the H1 element like so:

#header h1 a {
background-image: url

(images/header.gif);
background-repeat: no-repeat;
display: block;
height:

85px;
font-size: 0!important;
text-align: right;
float: left;
width: 350px !important;
}

For H1, set the size of the font. It does not matter which unit you use. How browsers render this varies – some browsers may choose to disregard such an outlandish request and just present the text as being small or barely legible. On the other hand, browsers might actually not display the text at all”like you would hope. Either way, the text is also black and aligned to the right meaning that it will blend into the black background. No one should be the wiser that there iss actually text there. You can build a separate style sheet for each content section. Each style sheet would carry the color theme and appropriately colored graphics. So, the actual style of the images would not be hard coded as an image into the HTML file of each page. Rather, its in a purple.css or faq.css that is linked in the head of each section document. So, if there is ever a re-design that requires a new header image, its a simple matter of editing one line in a given section file rather than updating many HTML files. And if you align the text, it ends up exactly where it needs to be. Use a couple font styling rules and you are done:

#header .slogan {
margin: 0;
padding:

0;
text-align: right;
color: #fff;
font-size: 12px;
white-space: nowrap;
}

After styling headers, you reach navigation links. Putting the links into a list just makes sense: they are a set of unordered items. However, they also display vertically whereas the Web page layout maybe laid out horizontally. To get that effect, you can use the float property in the list item CSS rule: #navsite ul li { margin: 0 3% 0 0; font-size: 12px; width: 10%; float: left; } Raise the ColumnsNow, youll style the columns. Youll want to put the navigation links for the current issue to the right.The original layout uses 125 pixels for this column. However, for this contemporary method precise measurements arent always the best choice. So, Id use percentages. In this case, the width ofthe right-hand column is 15% of the browsers viewport width.#navish {background-color: #000;position: absolute;left: 85%;width: 15%;z-index: 3;color: #000;font-size: 12px;padding: 0;}You can now shrink the content portion of the page by 15%. Do this by manipulating the right sideof the margin to a width of 15%:#content {margin: 0 15% 0 0;padding: 0 0 5% 0;color: #000;background-color: #fff;}

One Word Rankings

Well now, it’s been quite some time since an article was posted on here so I feel like I owe everyone something really good.

It’s common in seo to make suggestions to potential clients to not go after that elusive one word phrase. But by doing so, and with seemingly all seo professionals on board, has it gotten easier to get ranked for one-word phrases?

I’ve personally have been able to get some top rankings for clients of mine within the past year – I’m not saying this to brag, but if everyone’s drinking that kool-aid, how will anyone know how hard it is to go after one word?

Now, there are those that will tell you that a one-word phrase doesn’t convert. In my experience, these phrase drive a ton of traffic to the site (as much as up to 10k unique visitors a day) – of course not all of them convert.

But about 20% do.

Yes, 20% of all people coming in on a one-word phrase converts at that rate for something on the site. Maybe not for the phrase that brought them in, but that person converts on something.

Now, using WebTrends or Google Analytics will tell you the phrase on which the person came in from, but to get the granular level detail, the only system I’ve been able to come up with and rely on is a site database capturing system. It’s been custom created, but it can track all the pages visited and will tell you that if someone originally came to the site for the term “KVM” but ended up buying USB Cables, that data is retained.

Now, all of a sudden, those one-word phrases are looking pretty good. And, with soo many seo’s purposely not going after them, I think it presents an opportunity to grab those top rankings for those magical traffic drivers.

So, go get those words!

SEO is the understanding of using the changing set of methodologies and technologies in combination with general marketing savvy to promote a website above its competitors. It is the online equivalent of strategic business promotion. Its about looking at the internet and understanding how various technologies work together, how markets can be approached, how communities work and how to influence them. It’s a new area involving creative marketing, technical competence and social awareness. For example, read new upcoming trends when millions of unique visitors go to Facebook, LinkedIN or Twitter.com through multiple access points (mobile devices and desktop apps).

Some SEO work involves low level tasks, but that is not the strategic core of getting a site to rank, getting more traffic and making that website work when other similar sites fail. Its not about one thing, its about everything. Its about how you spend 12 hours online and track the latest trends, about how you read countless marketing blogs each week and how you continually adapt to emerging technologies while refining your work to meet your website users needs. There is no replacement for what you do, it takes a human being. Its about understanding how the whole picture of the online community comes together and how visitors stumble across the vast internet landscape and find sites. Its also about what makes them stay there, what influences them to share what they found and how to make a site that outperforms others that do the same thing.

Search Marketing is becoming more important. Technology is moving ahead at a blistering speed. Businesses and individuals need good, qualified advice and help on how to use that technology for maximum impact online. Go ahead, do not pay attention to SEO, but do not be surprised when you get crushed online by someone who does. Someone who is not leaving that up to chance, but actively and aggressively using creativity and technical savvy to open new markets and drive traffic to their website. Noone try to launch a website without a serious Search Marketing strategy, because your websites life or death depends on it. Remember good blogs go unread, many great sites fail and the purists oversimplify everything. The internet landscape is a jungle and search engine optimizers work hard to straighten out the confusion to help businesses leverage new technology, to gain readers, to gain traffic and ultimately, to be more successful online and off.

Search Marketing is about perspective and branding, but remember a search engine optimizer is not just someone who spams for links or adjusts pages for keywords. A quality SEM is someone who understands the methodologies for promoting a site online and uses this knowledge to help its client stand out and be more successful in business! SEO Professionals are no less than Marketing Head of a MNC! This is the place to go. If you still rely on dreamweaver to sort out your

    s or, heaven forbid, you still code with tables, the w3schools is a great place to start learnin’ yo self some real code. It takes a second to get past the design (it’s aweful, ironically), but there’s a metric ton of good information there.

  1. Apache – Oh Wait, it’s already there. Just click that “Personal Web Sharing” check box in your Sharing system preferences and you have everything you need to build a basic static HTML site. I get all my software updates from entropy.ch and there are a hundred good tutorials out there for installing PHP, Ruby On Rails, django, or whatever software you plan to use.
  2. subversion – Subversion is amazing, to say the least. Once you go “version control system” you can’t go back. Basically, subversion is a way to keep all of your sites (or your blog theme, etc) backed up and versioned. You install subversion server on your computer or a remote server, and then check in your site to the server. Then you can checkout your site to your webserver and always have an updatedable, but also revertable site. If you break your design, roll it back to the last time you checked it in. Want to move webhosts? It’s as easy as 1 command. And want to update your site to that new design you’ve been working on, “svn up” and your good-to-go. For a great tutorial on installing subversion, check out this great tutorial from Hivelogic.
  3. Textmate – Put down Dreamweaver and step away from the handholding. Seriously people, it’s really not that hard, and you’ll make so much nicer sites because of it. Textmate is a god send for web site designers. Yes, you’ll have to code by hand, but you can also post to your blog, get live updating previews of your code, and use the aforementioned subvesrion, straight from inside Textmate. And, with code competion and bundles, a well experienced ‘mater can type 2 or 3 characters and complete entire lines of code.
  4. Firefox – Ok, this one seems like low-hanging fruit, but if you add Firebug, Web Developer, and Colorzilla to Firefox 2, you have one sweet testing/debuging environment. Firebug is like sending Firefox to medical school, seriously slice and dice capabilities. Web Developer extesion is like buying one of those nice big red Snap On tool chests full of tools, and shoe horning it into your browser and Colorzilla is just that, a color picker as powerful as Godzilla. I can’t imagine doing webdesign with out these great little pieces of kit.
  5. Safari from O’Reilly Publishing – Safari from O’Reilly is amazing, that’s about all I can say. If you can’t tell, I’m big on documentation, and Safari is like having a bookstore in your computer. You can search through hundreads of REALLY REALLY great books (sorry about the caps, Safari gets me hot). My favorites on there are Bulletproof Web Design, The Zen of CSS, and Eric Meyer on CSS.

Big and multi-national corporates have an asset that costs millions per year to manage, which they do not fully understand and whose ROI is impossible to quantify. Yes, it is their corporate website – a square foot of computer screen that has in a decade become a fixture, yet remains the Cinderella of many communications efforts. At Solution Point, we look at the different jobs a site can do, and make a judgment on each.

Primary change that the web has brought about is the shift of power from sellers to buyers in the markets. This pattern repeats itself across many industry groups. The reason these companies can be highly successful is because they will help reduce the cost of doing business. The web-based market maker brings together a fragmented group of buyers with an equally fragmented group of sellers in selected niche markets. The business model is quite different from the existing direct sales business model prevalent on the web and is the true future of business websites.

But the rush to make webpages more dynamic often meant users were badly served. Simply put, good web development practices include making a site easy to use, good search tools, the use of text free of jargon, usability testing and a consideration of design even before the first line of code is written. Some design firms rushing to serve the small, committed minority might find they make a site far less useful to the vast majority who come to a site for a specific purpose. This is the reason, when planning corporate website, we at Solution Point consider five important factors:

1. Layout and Composition
2. Color and Texture
3. Typography and Content
4. Imagery and Animation
5. Overall Site Navigation

These elements basically comprises navigation and coherence, visual and content messages the site transmits, efficiency of the contact points and how effectively FAQs are used to divert direct contacts, as well as how a corporate website serves different groups: society, investors, media, job seekers and customers. At a fundamental stage, it is possible to classify corporate Websites by generations. It is not about the concept of Web 2.0, but some companies are in the third or even fourth generation, others are still struggling back in the second. View full article »
